Have you noticed the new play.rhapsody.com links scattered throughout the site? If not, go to a page in the Rhapsody catalog like http://www.rhapsody.com/massiveattack and hover over any of the links on the page that start music playing. You'll see that they all take the form of http://play.rhapsody.com/(something). For example, the artist sampler Rhaplink has the very simple form http://play.rhapsody.com/massiveattack.
You can send these Rhaplink to your friends through e-mail or IM or on your blog and when they click one, music will start playing. Assuming they have the Rhapsody Player Engine installed, are signed in and have popup-blocking disabled on play.rhapsody.com (which I recommend), then it plays instantly without any more user effort. It's a big list of IFs but under the right circumstances it works beautifully. If they're missing any of those pieces, the Rhaplink still works but takes a little more effort on the user's part.
You'll find similar URLs to play individual tracks or whole albums. In fact just about anywhere on the site where there's a circle-triangle play button, you can right click it and 'Copy Shortcut' or 'Copy Link Location' and share it with other folks. So next time you find some new music that you want to share with your friends, send them a Rhaplink. They're easier than ever to use. In fact URLs like http://play.rhapsody.com/thepostalservice are so easy to remember, they're perfect for telling your
friends about a new band at a party or over coffee. Unlike other
sites, Rhapsody 25 lets your friends listen to high-quality full length
songs, not just 30 second samples, all for free without any need for a credit card.
We've got some cool additions and enhancements to this feature in the works -- you can probably guess what some of them are. They'll be live soon, and we'll tell you all about them when they are. In the meantime, we invite you to enjoy what's already working.
Happy listening!
